You win some, you lose some
Some great news and some disappointing news today.
We could potentially have another sponsor on board. Quite accidentally, it was brought to my attention that this trip was not only cost neutral but also carbon neutral. As this is a solo expedition with no flights, no support vehicle, my pedal powered route to Paris and back is completely ‘green’ (I must try and remember that whilst fearing for my life on the streets of rush hour London!)
I can’t say that I am particularly an expert on carbon efficiency, but luckily, I know a man who is. I am keen to look at linking in with this organisation to maybe look at the ways we can limit carbon output. Hopefully I will get to visit some interesting projects along the way and educate myself further. I will update more on that when I can.
On the flip side, more rejection letters and emails today. I am not surprised, I don’t expect everyone to be able to help, but really, I wrote to a well known company asking for one of their products to assist me on the trip. I made sure to specify that I dint need a new product, simply a refurbished model or potentially an ex display? A lovely lady replied today to thank me for my email, wish me luck on the trip and reject my request for a number of reasons. I say a number of reasons, because the employee hadn’t thought to remove the various options that they must have on their template, rejection letter. It did make me laugh but I really was a little frustrated as they point out that they have supported very activity they can this year. (They mentioned a Cycling Team and a Rugby Team) I don’t want to sound bitter but when you get emails from students offering you their sleeping bag or tent, and you see strangers donating some cash, I do get a sense of disappointment when a company with a multi million pound profit last year, cant send me an ex display sat nav. Oh well, on to the next.
Just nobody buy...
Just kidding!

Taking Shape
Today I met Fiona Turner, the Fundraising Volunteer Manager in Darlington. a fantastic lady who shared with me her own motivations for working with the BHF. We also made some plans about how best to publicise the trip and visit some great places along the way. We also spoke about the amazing work they are doing with 'Mending Broken Hearts' where they are now looking at ways to grow stem cells and repair hearts that have been damaged after Heart Attacks.
Fiona also told me about plans for 2 additional defibrillators in Darlington Town Centre. they each cost £800, which is split equally between the BHF and Darlington Borough Council. It is great to know that the money raised by le Tour de Euro can be spent right on the doorstep.
Really excited about the plans we put together yesterday and will share more when the time is right!

PRESS release - it is really happening
Some great news, British Heart Foundation have formally backed the challenge and will be the beneficiary of all funds raised. I was really keen to get BHF backing and am looking forward to meeting with Fiona to discuss how we go about marketing this thing and dragging along some sponsors.
